Andrew Wishart Delivered with a Titanium Performance X Factor Australia 2011

Did this week’s theme Ultimate Dance Party! gave 40 years old Aussie bloke Andrew Wishart a hard time preparing for the live show 7 of the X- Factor Australia 2011? It must be a freaking experience for Andrew Wishart! Probably he was the main focus of attention given that he’s not the type of artist who does “sing and dance.” Pressure was also upon him after delivering excellent performances including a standing ovation for the past two weeks.

Andrew Wishart sang a hard song called Titanium by Sia. But nothing is too difficult for a man who has the best vocals in the competition. After all, it’s a singing contest and not lousy dance routines with awkward and distracting choreography.

Apart from the shaky start, the four judges Guy Sebastian, Mel B, Natalie Bassingthwaighte, and Guy Sebastian gave Andrew all positive comments for this performance.

Ordinary Days at Sydney's Belmore Park

In one ordinary day on my way to Sydney’s Central Business District (CBD), I happened to pass by on a park called Belmore Park in the Haymarket Area. It’s actually a few minutes walk from Sydney’s Central Train Station accross Eddy Avenue. If you are a Sydneysider, places like this seems so ordinary but reading the history of this park in City of Sydney website, it was mentioned that in “early years in the nineteenth, century this area was part of crown land containing the Police Barracks and residence, Devonshire Street Cemetery, Female Refuge of the Good Samaritan, Benevolent Asylum and a common. Belmore Park was known as the Police Paddock, as it was located adjacent to the Police Barracks. The area has long been associated with markets. In the late 1860s Belmore Produce Markets and Paddys Markets were built in the area opposite the current Belmore Park.”

A Terrifying 6.3 Magnitude Earthquake Hit Christchurch, New Zealand

A terrifying earthquake hit Christchurch, New Zealand. The quake occurred at 12:51 p.m.,NZ time today, February 22, 2011, a busy Tuesday. The epicenter was relatively shallow – just 3 miles deep – and close to about 10 kilometers South of New Zealand’s second largest city. Christchurch has a 340,000 population. This is the second major earthquake that hit Christchurch since September last year.

As I watch the breaking news at Ten News, it was reported that there were unconfirmed fatalities, injuries, people trapped in the buildings. Live pictures showed the city center was enveloped with dust and smoke. Ongoing rescues of people trapped in buildings and many cars under rubble. The Christchurch famous landmark building, The Christchurch Cathedral, was severely damaged. There were reported road cuts.

Most of Christchurch at the moment has no power and with limited telephone lines. Several aftershocks were reported.

It was really catastrophic and the damage was massive. A state of emergency has been declared.

I move that the House: acknowledges with great sadness the devastation occasioned by this summer’s natural disasters including unprecedented floods, Cyclone Yasi and bushfires; extends its deepest sympathies to the families of those who have lost loved ones; records its profound regret at the impact of this summer’s natural disasters on the economic and social well-being of affected communities; records its admiration for the courage shown by so many in the face of these disasters; acknowledges the enormous efforts of Defence personnel, emergency workers, and so many volunteers in responding to these disasters; and pledges the full support of the Australian Parliament and community to assist affected areas to recover and rebuild. – PM Julia Gillard

Watch the full video of Australia’s Prime Minister Julia Gillard‘s Speech at the Parliament when they resumed session last Tuesday, February 8, 2012. The highlight of her speech is when she show and held a mud splattered, tattered Australian flag that was recovered from the area of Murphy’s Creek by the crew of a Defence Force helicopter. She commended the bravery and patriotism of the people helping out the victims of Cyclone Yasi.

Jimmy Buffett Fell Off the Stage in His Concert in Sydney, Australia

I am fan of Jimmy Buffet and one of his songs that I really like most is the song “‘Margaritaville.” I was watching a breaking news at Channel 7 and was reported that he had an accident in his concert last night at the Hordern Pavillion in Sydney, Australia. Jimmy Buffet fell off from the stage just after completing a wonderful song caught in the video below. There were crowd of nearly 5000 people who were stunned and distraught by the incident.

Jimmy was taken to St Vincents Hospital. A news later today said that he is expected to be released from the hospital sometime in the next 24 hour.

January 26, 2011 is Australia Day! This is an official national public holiday of Australia that commemorates the arrival of the First Fleet at Sydney Cove in 1788 and the proclamation at that time of British sovereignty over the eastern seaboard of New Holland.

While most Sydneysiders opted for famous beaches like Bondi Beach, Manly Beach, Cronulla Beaches, among others, we opted to go for a “barbie”picnic at Sydney’s Bi-Centential Park located beside the iconic Sydney Olympic Park.

Yes, there were variety shows. From performances of young Aussie
singer-songwriters, Historical Dances, Aussie Country Bands,
to other international performances.

At the beginning of the video, you can see cars neatly parked on a carpark facing East Creek. As few minutes unfolds, a raging current of floodwaters rapidly flowed down the stream and swept away a lot of cars.

A man trying to save his car barely made it and escaped the floodwaters.

I was watching the news on TV after dinner today and saw a news clip about how severe flooding is taking place in Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia. The main street had turned into a raging river and a car floated and was swept away by strong current. Watch this video.

It was reported by Sydney Morning Herald that four (4) were confirmed dead in Toowoomba flash flooding.
