A Sign of Relief for Qantas Customers. Fair Work Australia Ordered Qantas to Resume Flights

Hurray! A sign of relief to thousands of QANTAS customers after Fair Work Australia, an independent industrial disputes tribunal, has ordered a permanent end to the industrial dispute that has grounded all Qantas flights. It ordered both QANTAS management and the three unions to immediately resume flights and return to the negotiating table to resolve this industrial dispute. The parties now have 21 days to reach an agreement or face binding arbitration.  Fair Work Australia issued this ruling after hearing evidences from the  airline, unions, and government at an emergency session in Melbourne.

Alan Joyce Qantas ordered to resume flights QANTAS UPDATE:

Qantas has these statements on their website:  “Qantas can confirm that all domestic and international services have resumed from mid-afternoon on Monday 31 October.  We are deeply sorry for the inconvenience and stress our customers have faced over the past days and months. Industrial action is now over, you can again book Qantas flights with confidence. Some flight delays, cancellations and disruptions are expected as we return our operations to normal and we advise you to visit Flight Status for up to the minute information on specific flights. As always, safety remains our first priority.  We apologise for any inconvenience that this industrial action has caused and we thank you for your understanding and continued support. ” (Read Qantas Updates here)

Qantas Grounds All Domestic and International Flights Effective Immediately

Sydney TV stations has this breaking news with QANTAS  delivering a shocking decision and announced the grounding and cancellation of all its domestic and international flights effective Immediately. QANTAS chief executive Alan Joyce announced this decision in a press conference at 5 p.m. today, 29 October 2011.

Qantas’  latest bulletin at AEDT 8.35pm 29 October 2011 posted at the Qantas website says this:

Qantas will stop all domestic and international flights from 5pm (AEDT) on Saturday 29 October until further notice. This is in response to the damaging industrial action by three unions – the Australian Licenced Aircraft Engineers Association (ALAEA), the Australian International Pilots Association (AIPA) and the Transport Workers Union (TWU).

QantasLink, Jetstar, Jetconnect services, and our freight services (Express Freighters Australia and Atlas) will continue to operate as normal.

Qantas is providing a full refund for any flights cancelled due to the industrial action. Customers can also rebook their flights for a later date.

Customers are advised not to travel to the airport unless they are travelling on a QantasLink , Jetstar or Jet Connect flight and are urged to reconsider any non-urgent travel and defer their travel plans wherever possible.

If your flight number falls within the range QF1400 – 2699 you are travelling with QantasLink and your flight is not affected by the grounding so you should travel to the airport as normal.

Qantas codeshares with a number of airlines, these carriers are continuing their operations as scheduled. These flights have both Qantas and alternative carrier flight numbers eg. QF319 and BA16. READ FULL ANNOUNCEMENT HERE

MORE NEWS ON THE GROUNDING OF QANTAS:

  • Qantas today announced that, from 8pm AEDT on Monday 31 October 2011, it will lock out all employees who will be covered by the industrial agreements currently being negotiated with the Australian Licenced Engineers Union (ALAEA), the Transport Workers Union (TWU) and the Australian and International Pilots Union (AIPA)

  • Qantas reported that the financial impact of action taken to date has reached $68 million and the action is costing Qantas approximately $15 million per week in lost revenue. Approximately 70,000 passengers have been affected and more than 600 flights cancelled. (Read Qantas Media Release here)

 

This shocking move by Qantas will surely create a lot of chaos to thousands of travelers from tonight.
