She died last Saturday, 11 February 2012 at the age of 48. “In 2009, the Guinness World Records cited her as the most-awarded female act of all time. Whitney Houston awards include two Emmy Awards, six Grammy Awards, 30 Billboard Music Awards, and 22 American Music Awards, among a total of 415 career awards as of 2010. In 2010, Whitney Houston had a concert at the Sydney’s Acer Arena, Sydney Olympic Park in Homebush. It’s part of her comeback tour after she ruined her voice, as reported, due to drug abuse.

The Sydney Opera House is a multi-venue performing arts centre in the Australian city of Sydney. It was conceived and largely built by Danish architect Jørn Utzon, finally opening in 1973 after a long gestation starting with his competition-winning design in 1957.

Utzon received the Pritzker Prize, architecture’s highest honour, in 2003. The Pritzker Prize citation stated:
“ There is no doubt that the Sydney Opera House is his masterpiece. It is one of the great iconic buildings of the 20th century, an image of great beauty that has become known throughout the world – a symbol for not only a city, but a whole country and continent. ”

The Sydney Opera House was made a UNESCO World Heritage Site on 28 June 2007. It is one of the 20th century’s most distinctive buildings and one of the most famous performing arts centres in the world. (source Wikipedia)

Of course, millions of viewers prefer to stay home and watch the coverage of this popular attraction to officially welcome 2012!

This year’s theme for the Sydney New Year’s Eve Fireworks Display was dubbed as “Time to Dream.” The famous Sydney Harbour Bridge once again is the perfect venue for this event. Re-live the spectacular as you watch this video aired over Channel 9.

Watch Livestream of The Lights of Christmas at the St Mary’s Cathedral Sydney

It’s that time of the year again Sydneysiders and valued visitors of Sydney. Summer Christmas Holidays!

Not to be missed this holiday season is the colorful Christmas lights in major Sydney locations. One of the major spectacular Lights of Christmas display is on the western facade of St Mary’s Cathedral. It consists of projections of beautiful and symbolic reflections and Renaissance artwork of 15th and 16th century Italian paintings by painting masters such as Bellini, Botticelli, Titian and Raphael which are normally on display at the Accademia Carrara, Bergamo, Italy.

The Lights of Christmas at the St Mary’s Cathedral can been seen every night from the Cathedral forecourt until Christmas Eve from 8.30pm until midnight. A live choir is performing on Thursdays through to Sundays from 7.30pm to 8.30pm.

Flash Mob Dance at the Sydney Central Train Station

Have you been to the Sydney Central Train Station? Well, it’s a busy place especially during peak hours. Positive or not, Flash Mob Dancers invaded the main area. Oh yeah, some people loved it and probably some didn’t because obviously, they had missed their train and had to wait for another 15 to 30 minutes ’til the next trip!

Anyway, these Flash Mob Dancers did it for charity. It’s called ‘The Move Movement‘, a charity program developed by the Westmead Medical Research Foundation (WMRF) that promotes a healthy active lifestyle, in the prevention of disease. The ‘Make Your Move’ flash mob event was organised by the Event Management students from the Ultimo College and filmed by the Film and Television (screen) students from Randwick College, TAFE NSW Sydney Institute. Australian Pokie Machine Reforms Debate

The Australian debate on pokie machines reforms goes on. The other day, a Catholic Priest and Youth Off The Streets CEO, Father Chris Riley announced that he is against the Gillard Government’s poker machine reforms. He was concerned that clubs would donate less money to charities if they were forced to install a pre-commitment system. He said that the government should focus on counseling and education. Last month, SBS Insight Program, hosted a debate on Pokie Machine Reforms that included MP Andrew Wilkie on the panel and a number of Australian Clubs Managers. It was a very interesting debate! They discuss among others that Clubs are getting huge revenues but only give a small portion to the community. Watch the video below.

As a background, just after the election last year, Tasmanian independent MP Andrew Wilkie gave his support to the Labour government to put forward this agenda of poker machine reforms. Labor agreed to introduce mandatory per-commitment technology, requiring poker machine players to preset a limit on how much they plan to gamble on high-stakes poker machines.
